Adapting to Change

The key to adapting to change...

In life, we will all experience many changes or transitional phases in our life. When our environment changes, sometimes we need to reorganize our behavior to the new situation in order for a natural flow to occur; basically, we orient our brain onto a new pathway. If our environment changes and we stay on the old brain pathway (e.g. behavior, strategy, communication, etc.) we will undoubtedly be met with resistance and blocked by obstacles. Change is scary, not just because of the unknown, but it also puts a spoke in our wheel of confidence – routine gives us a sense of stability and assurance. If we want to cope with changes in our life, we must learn how to be flexible. This means learning how to let go, being open to making mistakes, and seeing the good, the bad, and the grey areas in life, and accepting who you are. In these initial moments of change, remind yourself to slow down your pace and gently walk with the newness. Schedule 30 minutes to an hour every day and get situated in a quiet place to allow time for reflection. Bring a journal and write about how you are feeling about the changes in your life followed by meditation. Allowing yourself to reflect can help you identify your main concerns and challenges about the situation.
