LPC Associate, Supervised by Carissa Cano, LPC-S

Hello, I’m Sarah Unertl. My passion lies in supporting you in reaching your goals and enhancing your life in meaningful ways. With over 10 years of experience as a school counselor, I specialize in helping parents navigate ADHD management for themselves and their children, along with other challenges that arise when raising school-aged kids. I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy, where building a trusting, collaborative relationship with individuals and couples is paramount.

I practice unconditional positive regard and aim to approach every session with empathy, creating a safe environment for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. This strong foundation is crucial for fostering growth and positive change.

We are all beautifully complex beings, shaped by various aspects of our identities—such as our work, race, gender, sexuality, and the roles we play as parents, spouses, and children of aging parents. Unfortunately, many clinicians shy away from discussing sexuality. It is surprising how often human sexuality is excluded from educational training for counselors, potentially leading to challenges when navigating these sensitive topics. As a result, discussions may be swayed by conservative or mainstream views rather than grounded in evidence-based understanding.

I also focus on helping adults address any life challenges they may be facing, including intimacy and sexuality. With my training from Dr. Ashley Staats, LMFT, CST-S, at the TalkSex Institute—a facility recognized by the National Sex Therapy Institute—I am fully equipped to support you in these areas.

At Connected Wellness Counseling, we are dedicated to creating a safe space for our clients. You can feel at ease discussing any aspect of your life, knowing we will respond with warmth, compassion, and genuine understanding.
